Definition of Class

This position coordinates and participates in the implementation of services and assistance to facilitate equal access to educational opportunities for qualified students. The incumbent works with students, faculty, staff, and administrators to provide and improve access to courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities through the provision and development of programs and services that promote Universal design. The incumbent also organizes and participates in the delivery of sign language interpreting services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Organizes and participates in the delivery of sign language interpreting services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Arranges in-class, real-time captioning services.
  • Coordinates and participates in the implementation of services to facilitate equal access to educational opportunities for qualified students.
  • Works with students, faculty, staff, and administrators to provide and improve access to courses, programs, services, and university activities.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  1. Determines and ensures equal access to educational opportunities by identifying and providing necessary services and/or reasonable accommodations.
  2. Coordinates and participates in the delivery of services and assistance for students with disabilities.  
  3. Recruits, selects, supervises and evaluates services provided by contract service providers.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, special education or a related field.


AND


Experience:
One (1) year of experience related to the above described duties.

 

AND


Certification: Must hold current certification as an interpreter, either
through QA or RID, or other certification recognized by the State of Mississippi. Must be registered or eligible for registration with the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing within 30 days from date of hire.

 

Substitution Statement: Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
