Position Description

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Mississippi invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the assistant professor level in the area of transportation engineering. As transportation enters a new era, the successful candidate will be able to teach and conduct research in core areas of transportation and construction management and also across disciplines of transportation. The successful candidate will complement the existing faculty in the department.  All areas within transportation engineering will be considered, though candidates with expertise within the following areas are preferred: traffic engineering, transportation operations and management, traffic safety, multimodal transportation system, intelligent transportation systems, or smart transportation infrastructure. Candidates applying for this position are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels, a demonstrated capability to develop an externally-funded research program with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications, and a dedication to service to the profession.


Opportunities exist for collaboration with current faculty in the department, School of Engineering, and research centers on or near the campus, including the National Center for Computational Hydroscience and Engineering, the Center for Graphene Research and Innovation,  Mississippi Mineral Resources Institute, the National Center for Physical Acoustics,  the  Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory of the Army Engineer Research Development Center, and the Mississippi Department of Transportation. The University coordinates three research Constellations with broad, interdisciplinary teams of researchers. In addition, the campus Office of Sustainability is a source of collaborative projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a doctorate degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field at the time of appointment.
