Definition of Class

University Development is searching for two available positions, Associate Director of Development (Honors College) and Director of Development (College of Liberal Arts).

 

Associate Director of Development:

This position identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards major gift prospects. The incumbent is responsible for planning, executing and administering a major gifts program for an assigned program or college in collaboration with the dean or director and development supervisor. The officer must be knowledgeable and articulate about current giving opportunities and develop new ones. The officer engages volunteers in fundraising efforts or service activities. Extensive travel is required to cultivate and solicit donors.

 

Director of Development:

This position identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards gift prospects. The incumbent plans, executes andadministers programs to identify funding opportunities, develops proposal strategies and cultivates solicitationof gifts, maintains knowledge of and communicates details of gift planning opportunities, and leads volunteers infundraising efforts or engagement activities.

Examples of Work Performed

Associate Director of Development:

  • Develops fundraising strategies for assigned program.
  • Takes college or university leaders on donor visits.
  • Works with communications to develop fundraising pieces.
  • Arranges visits with donors via phone, email and social media.
  • Attends alumni, donor, college, sporting and other events.
  • Promptly records interactions with donors in the development database.
  • Sends all biographical updates to the development database.
  • Runs reports to build a trip or share information with a supervisor.
  • Travels overnight and on weekends to meet with prospective donors.
  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.

 

Director of Development:

  • Develops fundraising strategies for assigned program.
  • Evaluates progress toward goals and adjusts as necessary.
  • Identifies and researches funding opportunities.
  • Coordinates special events for major donor prospects.
  • Works with communications department to develop fundraising materials.
  • Arranges visits with donors via phone, email and social media.
  • Represents the department at various social and professional functions.
  • Compiles data for proposal submission and reporting.
  • Sends biographical updates to the development database.
  • Runs reports to gather data for building a trip or sharing information with a supervisor.
  • Travels overnight and on weekends to meet with prospective donors.
  • May provide guidance and supervision for support staff.
  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Essential Functions

Associate Director of Development:

  2. Works with dean/director to set goals and strategies.
  3. Travels extensively and represents assigned program at various university functions.

 

Director of Development:

  1. Identifies funding opportunities, develops strategies, and solicits gifts.
  2. Collaborates with dean/director and staff to set goals and strategies.
  3. Travels and represents assigned programs at various university functions.

Minimum Education/Experience

Associate Director of Development:

Education:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

 

AND

 

Experience:
Two (2) years of experience related to the above described duties.
