We are currently seeking a Classification Specialist to join the HR team within the Compensation department.

 

As a Classification Specialist, you will be an integral part of our Human Resources team, working closely with departments across the entire university. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that all positions are classified correctly within our compensation structure. This role requires curiosity, a willingness to ask questions, and the ability to interact confidently with leaders at all levels.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Analyze duties, responsibilities, and qualifications to determine the appropriate classification, pay plan, title, series, and grade.

  • Conduct job analysis and evaluations to ensure accurate classification of positions.

  • Collaborate with university departments to develop and maintain accurate job descriptions.

  • Provide guidance and support to HR and departmental staff on classification issues.

  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation on job classifications, ensuring accuracy and consistency in records.

  • Evaluate and classify positions within the university, ensuring alignment with our established compensation structure and internal equity guidelines.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and policies. (FLSA)

  • Participate in salary surveys 

  • Assist in the development and implementation of compensation-related training programs for university staff.

  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

 

  1. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable engaging with leaders at all levels.
  2. Highly curious and detail-oriented, with a passion for understanding the nuances of various roles.
  3. Ability to ask insightful questions to gather comprehensive information.
  4. Experience in compensation is a plus but not required.
  5. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  6. Proficiency in HRIS and compensation software, with Workday experience preferred.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university in Public Administration, Human Resource Management, or a related field.

 

AND

 

Experience:

One (1) year of experience related to the above-described duties

 

Preferred experience within Human Resources and or Compensation

Preferred experience in Workday
