Job Description:

The Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence (CME) at The University of Mississippi is accepting applications for the position of Instructor – Extension Services. This is a full-time non-tenure track teaching position within the CME. One of the primary duties of the instructor position will be teaching lean manufacturing.

 

This is a professional position in which the instructor teaches undergraduate coursework related to lean manufacturing subject matter. The incumbent also visits and identifies business needs of companies and determines potential CME collaboration based on the mission and vision of the CME, works with companies to prepare for lean/experiential manufacturing courses with follow-up after the course, works to develop various continuous improvement activities, and coaches and mentors CME students throughout the CME program. The incumbent exercises discretion and judgment in developing student/company interaction, coordinating company/CME events and programs, and providing support to companies.

 

This individual will also propose and create training in manufacturing for CME students. This training will also necessitate that the instructor act as a coach and mentor to CME students through the educational program offered.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

1. Teach lean manufacturing courses at the undergraduate level.

2. Coach and mentor CME students throughout the CME program.

3. Work with a company to prepare for manufacturing courses.

4. Identify business needs of a company and potential involvement based on the mission and vision of CME.

5. Work with key people in various continuous improvement activities.

6. Coordinate and support CME visits by and to manufacturing companies.

Position Details

Appointment: 12 Month

Assignment Type: Non-Tenure Track

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree at time of employment

 

Experience: 5 years experience in manufacturing

 

Knowledge of lean manufacturing philosophy and practices, skills in organization and administration, ability to identify potential business needs of manufacturing companies and also teach, coach, and mentor students in training in a manufacturing environment.
