Definition of Class

This position plans and executes meetings, special events, or functions for a College, School, or Program within the University. The incumbent manages the execution and implementation of assigned events and planning timelines, develops and implements policies and procedures related to event planning, manages and oversees departmental budget, and provides supervision, guidance, and direction for support staff.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Directs day to day operational functions of event planning.
  • Establishes and manages event timelines.
  • Develops and recommends event operating procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with suppliers, vendors, and clients.
  • Negotiates prices, menus, space, etc. with suppliers, vendors, and clients.
  • Develops, manages and oversees assigned event budget.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures related to event planning.
  • Trains, develops, and manages the performance of staff.
  • Establishes and implements event goals and objectives.
  • Manages event logistics and determines strategies to accomplish event success.
  • Ensures best practices are maintained for event planning.
  • Prepares event analysis to assess opportunities and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Manages billing and arranges prompt payment for events once complete.
  • Ensures staff are compliant with policies and procedures and guidelines are met.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

Essential Functions

  4. Provides supervision and guidance for support staff.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

 

AND

 

Experience:
Three (3) years of experience related to the above described duties.

 

Substitution Statement:
Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
