Definition of Class

This position leads and manages the information technology area and infrastructure of the Department of Student Housing. The incumbent provides leadership and direction to departmental staff for information technology system; manages system analyses, programming, implementation and maintenance of client/server systems in Student Housing; and develops departmental policies and procedures for the use of information technology.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Provides leadership and technical direction to departmental staff to ensure system performance and operation objectives are achieved.  
  • Maintains technology system equipment, hardware and software systems and performs system upgrades. (i.e., building controls, display boards, servers, access controls, cameras).
  • Identifies and develops strategic goals and objectives for area.
  • Develops policies and procedures for area and department.
  • Leads, develops, and trains a team in managing departmental technologies. Delegates tasks as needed.
  • Determines technology security needs and collaborates with the University Information Technology department regarding user privileges. Collaborates broadly across department.
  • Manages hardware and software contracts and implementation.
  • Develops technical specifications for vendor bids and assists in new construction specifications for departmental technology.
  • Manage large applications such as StarRez that services large student, campus populations.
  • Evaluates, selects, and recommends computer hardware and software.
  • Manages active directory authentication and management.  
  • Delivers rapid technology solutions. Performs user need and system analyses.
  • Performs maintenance and equipment repair and network support.
  • Evaluates hardware and software to determine efficiency and compatibility with existing systems.
  • Stays abreast of new technology advances, products, and services.
  • Establishes and monitors departmental backup and recovery procedures.
  • Serves as liaison with department of Information Technology and assists with network support.
  • Runs queries and manages the SQL database.
  • Leads budget planning for area.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

Essential Functions

  1. Manages the information technology infrastructure for Student Housing.
  2. Provides leadership and technical direction to departmental staff.
  3. Develops policies and procedures for departmental technology use.
  4. Provides input for departmental budget development.  
  5. Manages data integration with external services.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.


AND

 

Experience:
Three (3) years of experience related to the above described duties.

Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
