Definition of Class

The University of Mississippi’s National Center for Physical Acoustics invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate with strong experimental skills and demonstrated experience with complex flow measurements like PIV or spectroscopy to join the Aeroacoustics Research Group. The successful candidate will be involved in conducting novel research in the areas of supersonic jet noise, supersonic gas-particle interactions, base flows, and/or unsteady combustion dynamics. The selected candidate will be a member of the Aeroacoustics group at the NCPA and have access to the group’s world class research facilities (http://www.olemiss.edu/depts/aeroacoustics/UM_Aeroacoustics/Facilities.html).

The selected candidate must be eligible for U.S. Security Clearance.

Examples of Work Performed

The candidate will be responsible for carrying out experimental research involving complex flow measurements in the areas of supersonic jet noise, supersonic gas-particle interactions, base flows, and/or unsteady combustion dynamics. The candidate will be responsible for compiling results into official reports, making presentations to customers/sponsors, helping with the development of new proposals, and publishing findings.

Minimum Education/Experience

The position requires an earned PhD in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Science, Applied Physics, or a closely related field. The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in the practice of modern fluid-mechanics measurements and familiarity with correlation-based analytical methods. The selected candidate must be eligible for U.S. Security Clearance.
