Definition of Class

This position participates in the production and coordination of publications. The incumbent writes, edits, and coordinates the efforts of others participating in the production of magazines, brochures, reports, and other related materials.  

Examples of Work Performed

  • Coordinates the production of online and social media content, including general news and promotions and advertising.
  • Oversees content planning and the production of online and social media content, including general news and promotions and advertising. 
  • Edits, assigns, and incorporates the work of other writers, visual storytellers, and graphic artists on the appropriate publication platforms and provides ongoing mentoring.
  • Writes articles and informational items for publication as well as news releases.
  • Edits, coordinates, assigns, and incorporates the work of other writers, photographers, and artists.
  • Coordinates the work of other staff members participating in the production of assigned publications; proofs and edits work of staff members and student assistants.
  • Maintains contact with students, faculty, staff, and alumni to gather relevant information to include in publications.
  • Takes photos or assigns projects to photographers or artists, as needed.
  • Prepares special reports for administrative utilization.
  • Solicits and sells advertising for publications.
  • Responsible for the billing and collection of all fees associated with advertising.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following.  Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  1. Provides writing and editing for publications.  
  2. Coordinates the production of various publications.
  3. Prepares reports for administrative utilization.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Journalism, English or a related field.

 

AND

 

Experience:
Two (2) years of experience related to the above described duties.

 

Substitution Statement:

Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
