Department Summary
The University of Mississippi, through its Center for STEM Learning is dedicated to advancing STEM education and active learning. The Center was established with a vision to focus on active learning in an interdisciplinary STEM environment and to support the retention of students pursuing STEM degrees. The Center is housed in the recently opened Jim and Thomas Duff Center for Science and Technology Innovation, a state of the art teaching building that includes four floors of laboratories, lecture halls and offices dedicated to supporting students in science, technology, engineering and math-related endeavors.

Role Summary
Leads a team of instructional designers and works collaboratively with faculty members and other stakeholders to develop and implement innovative and effective instructional design solutions.
- Oversees development of active learning techniques in Integrated Science classes
- Implements professional development opportunities for faculty
- Facilitates active learning experiences in STEM courses
- Demonstrates active learning strategies in STEM classrooms
- Assesses the efficacy of active learning classrooms
- Coordinates activities of support staff, faculty, and/or volunteers engaged in implementation and administration of program objectives

- Leads professional development for faculty and graduate instructors
- Facilitates active learning experiences in STEM courses
- Demonstrates active learning strategies in STEM classrooms
- Assesses the efficacy of active learning classrooms
- Implements training and development opportunities for faculty and graduate instructors including workshops, seminars, faculty development lunches, etc.
- Promotes teaching excellence through one-on-one consultations with faculty and instructors, classroom observations, teaching materials analysis, and additional services as needed
- Analyzes workshop activity, surveys, and other evidence of impact to determine improvements of active learning teaching strategies within the Duff Center
- Oversees development of active learning techniques in Integrated Science classes
- Assists in showcasing the Duff Center as a center of excellence in STEM education
- Identifies opportunities for program and course improvement
- Assists and collaborates in community outreach efforts
- Works with K-12 teachers as time permits
- Collaborates with Center staff and faculty to develop strategic initiatives that align with the vision of the Center for STEM Learning.
Essential Functions
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.
1. Manages and leads one or multiple instructional designers.
2. Collaborates with faculty members and other stakeholders to develop and implement instructional design solutions.
3. Develops and implements policies and procedures related to instructional design and course development.
4. Provides training and professional development opportunities to faculty members and instructional designers on effective teaching and learning strategies and technologies.
5. Monitors and evaluates program performance, making data-driven recommendations for program improvements and enhancements.
Minimum Education/Experience
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience: (3) Three Years Experience including supervisory experience
An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered for this role. Substitutions of the required experience or education will be assessed on a 1:1 substitution basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years experience in delivering professional development
- Minimum of 5 years experience in leadership roles in education
- Experience working with undergraduate students on active learning
- K-12 teaching experience with an understanding of the transition from K-12 to college
- Understanding of the dynamics and culture of undergraduate education
