Department Summary
Our division within the Office of Accounting mainly focuses on Grant and Sponsored Program Accounting. The similar priorities across all positions enable our team to work independently while fostering close collaboration within the department. We are a friendly environment that offers assistance to one another and our external customers in our best efforts to complete our clearly defined goals.

Role Summary
Under supervision, performs basic accounting and/or auditing duties and assists higher level accountants with general accounting work to ensure the accurate recording and reporting of a unit's financial transactions.
This position performs routine, professional-level accounting functions typically in a centralized department under the guidance of a higher-level administrator. The incumbent creates and assigns institutional account numbers, reviews and uploads complex project budgets and other project specific data, assesses compliance with project terms and conditions, and assists with financial report preparation and submission. The role involves working with an enterprise resource planning system, such as SAP or Workday, and requires extensive use of Microsoft Excel.
Examples of Work Performed
- Create and maintain institutional account data in the enterprise financial system.
- Analyze and interpret complex sponsored program information to establish new grants and accounts in an enterprise financial system.
- Manage and update sponsored program budgets and other award information.
- Assist with post-award budget revisions.
- Compile data reports related to grants and contracts as required.
- Provide assistance to university departments with internal processes related to grant and contract administration.
- Maintain knowledge of Federal, State, Local, and Institutional regulations required for research administration.
- Assist with grant, contract, and year-end closing procedures.
- Monitor financial systems to develop and document controls to ensure system reliability and data integrity.

Essential Functions
1. Organizes, prepares and updates basic financial statements, journals, accounts, ledgers and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions.
2. Analyzes financial reports, data and records, identifies discrepancies.
3. Maintains automated financial systems
4. Audits reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, reports, and prepares working papers.
5. Provides budget information and projections based on existing data and established policies and procedures
