Department Summary

The School of Business Advising Office is a team-focused work environment with approximately 12 advisors and support staff.  Our priority is to provide accurate and effective assistance to current and prospective students and campus partners in a timely manner.  With a student population of approximately 4,000 business undergraduates, our department is a great fit for those who want to stay engaged year-round in student-centered service and who bring a positive, service-led mindset.

Role Summary

Develops and implements recruitment plans based on enrollment goals, oversees and organizes events, recruits and trains staff and student/alumni volunteers, coordinates with UM professionals involved in evaluation and recruitment, maintains and develops partnerships with external community-based organizations, evaluates admissions applications and represents the institution to prospective students with a goal of attracting, admitting, and enrolling a talented, geographically diverse student body.

Examples of Work Performed

  • This position will meet with prospective and admitted students in a variety of settings: one-on-one on campus visits, group campus visits, tabling at college fairs, and traveling to high schools and community colleges for college fairs and visits.  

  • In addition to representing the School of Business at scheduled admissions events, this position coordinates, plans and implements recruitment events for the School of Business, such as Admitted Student Days.

  • This person will also recruit, train and organize our Student Ambassador program within the School of Business and assist with new student orientations.  There will be events scheduled for some evenings and weekends.  

  • Working closely with admissions and marketing teams across campus, the Admissions Counselor will plan and execute strategic communication plans for prospective and admitted students to maintain our growth for the School of Business.  

  • Frequently used programs will include Salesforce, Slate, Canva and other design tools, SAP and Banner. 

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following.  Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  1. Counsels prospective and admitted students on educational planning and career opportunities; may specialize in a specific target population, such as veterans, transfer students, or non-traditional students.
  2. Receives, evaluates and responds to freshman and transfer student applications according to established policies and procedures.
  3. Identifies opportunities for and develops admissions and outreach events.
  4. Schedules logistics and secures resources for events to promote the Institution.
  5. Evaluates program effectiveness and provides recommendations for improvement.
  6. Creates targeted communication plans and materials based on established goals.
  7. Delivers directed admissions program messaging to internal and external audiences.
  8. Identifies, promotes, and maintains internal and external partnerships focusing on outreach, recruitment, and admission.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Experience: (3) Three Years Experience
