Definition of Class

This position oversees the administration and business operations of the department. The incumbent assists with the development, execution, and maintenance of departmental policies and procedures; prepares, maintains and reviews departmental budgets and financial records/reports; and supervises support staff. The incumbent frequently exercises discretion and independent judgment pertaining to business operations and the appropriate and most effective use of department funds.

  • Assists in directing and coordinating the daily operations of the department to include the operation of related services and activities.
  • Plans, develops, and implements efficient business practices.
  • Analyzes data/results and meets with customers to ensure that problems or complaints are addressed and corrected appropriately.
  • Evaluates proposed policies and procedures; serves as an advisor to University officials, offering information relevant to the planning of departmental activities.
  • Recommends improvements in department related business operations to ensure effectiveness, efficiency and adherence to university policies.
  • Analyzes departmental financial records and reports, and recommends proper administrative action.
  • Reviews departmental personnel functions to ensure proper administration.
  • Provides direct supervision of subordinate staff; coordinating workflows and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Develops and implements short and long-term financial plans.
  • Analyzes accounts and implements processes to streamline related procedures.
  • Plans, develops, and reviews departmental budget; and prepares related financial analysis and reports.
  • Monitors and tracks expenditures and income of departmental units or programs.
  • Prepares, presents and reviews financial and operation reports for internal and external use.
  • Ensures compliance with University policies and procedures. Represents the department to committees, administrators, and agencies regarding business and financial matters.
  • Performs other related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  1. Manages and coordinates the administration, business operations, and financial efforts of the department.
  2. Prepares, maintains, and reviews departmental budget(s) and financial records, reports and statements.
  3. Plans, develops, and implements efficient business practices and serves as an advisor to University officials.
  4. Manages the administration of the department’s personnel and supervises support staff.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, or related field from an accredited four-year college or university.

 

AND

 

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience related to the above described duties.
