Department Summary

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life seeks a highly motivated, student-centered, and dedicated professional to serve as the Assistant Director primarily working with the College Panhellenic Council (CPH). Under the supervision of the Director, the Assistant Director will provide assistance and support to the over 175-year-old fraternity and sorority community on campus in the areas of program development, risk management, and the promotion of leadership. This individual will join a staff of 6 full-time staff members and 3 graduate assistants who will engage student leaders in the management and direction of operations and programming while helping chapters to fully engage faculty, staff, alumni, and the community in the areas of academic excellence, civic engagement, health and wellness, creating pathways for access and opportunities as well as professional and personal development of their membership.

Role Summary

  • Primary advisor of CPH
  • Oversee recruitment, programming and membership development
  • Supervise a Graduate Assistant
  • Provide direction and leadership for community programs hosted by the office (as determined based on the skills and desires of the selected candidate)

Examples of Work Performed

  • Assists in providing leadership and management oversight to the University’s social fraternities and sororities and working with all councils but primarily with the College Panhellenic Council (CPH).
  • Directly advise chapter presidents from the 11 organizations and their respective executive boards, standards boards, recruitment processes and related committees and programs in collaboration with other FSL staff
  • Develop, implement and evaluate leadership training/educational programs on issues that impact students including but not limited to new member development, senior transition, risk management, diversity and inclusion, officer trainings, event planning, and conflict management, either independently or through campus partners collaborations.
  • Supervise, train and evaluate a Graduate Assistant.
  • Manages and works with student leaders to plan fraternity and sorority recruitment and intake efforts.
  • Manages and oversees FSL-wide community signature programming including but not limited to FSL Excellence Awards, STANDKind harm reduction series, leadership programs such as B.R.I.D.G.E., FLE and ENGAGE.
  • Develop print, web materials and social media related to Fraternity & Sorority Life.
  • Assists with fraternity and sorority conduct matters as determined by the Office of Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct
  • Serve as a liaison between the University and advisors and member organization’s national headquarters.
  • Will assist in the development of assessment, retention, and strategic plans for the Office of Fraternity &; Sorority Life.
  • Serve on Student Affairs and University-wide committees. Also, represent the University of Mississippi within fraternity and sorority professional associations and organizations through attendance of relevant conferences or training programs to remain current in the field.
  • Perform related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following.  Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

1. Oversees scheduling logistics, securing resources, and facilitating one or more student programs, activities and/or services, which may include special events, student organizations, student publications, and student governance structures.
2. Assists with the design and delivery of student-focused programming and associated resources and materials to promote new and ongoing programs and initiatives.
3. Answers questions and provides information and resources to individual students and groups based on established materials and standards.
4. Assists with advising and training student workers and volunteers as needed.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Experience: (3) Three Years Experience

 

 

An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered for this role. Substitutions of the required experience or education will be assessed on a 1:1 substitution basis.

Preferred Qualifications: Masters Degree and (2) Two Years of Related Experience.
