Department Summary
The University of Mississippi is seeking a dynamic and talented Assistant Director of Student Organization Management for the Ole Miss Student Union to join our team.
The Gertrude C. Ford Ole Miss Student Union serves as the center of student life on the Ole Miss campus while supporting the education mission of the university by enhancing the collegiate experience with quality programs, facilities, and services. The Ole Miss Student Union (OMSU) department serves as the hub for all 400+ Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) on campus as well as the online student organization portal, The ForUM. Our OMSU staff advises several key student organizations and assists those organizations in coordinating over 200 events and activities throughout the academic year. Additionally, the department manages the general operations of the facility which includes space reservations, student employees, and event planning for the facility.

Role Summary
This position develops, leads, and directs programs focused on expanding and supporting student engagement and leadership initiatives. The incumbent manages the Registered Student Organization (RSO) process, organizes and directs event registration, advises department-sponsored RSOs, assesses departmental activities and events, and manages and maintains departmental budget, and executes departmental goals and objectives.
Essential Functions
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.
- Oversees scheduling logistics, securing resources, and facilitating one or more student programs, activities and/or services, which may include special events, student organizations, student publications, and student governance structures.
- Assists with the design and delivery of student-focused programming and associated resources and materials to promote new and ongoing programs and initiatives.
- Answers questions and provides information and resources to individual students and groups based on established materials and standards.
- Assists with advising and training student workers and volunteers as needed.
Examples of Work Performed
- Manages and directs Registered Student Organizations (RSO).
- Directs and maintains the event registration process for RSOs.
- Directs and maintains the Student Activities Fee funding allocation process for RSOs
- Directs, interprets, and proposes changes to university policies that pertain to RSOs.
- Serves as a liaison between RSOs and other campus departments.
- Serves as an additional advisor to the Associated Student Body (ASB), providing direct support to the ASB Treasury and other units as designated by the Associate Director.
- Maintains relationships with campus partners to provide opportunities for RSO partnerships with other RSOs and campus departments.
- Manages the university’s extended orientation program
- Develops and facilitates orientation programs for incoming students.
- Provides guidance and supervision to support staff.
- Advises the delegated RSO(s) overseen directly the Ole Miss Student Union department.
- Recruits, selects, trains, and supervises student employees, graduate assistant(s), and faculty/staff advisors.
- Provides guidance and supervision of the organization’s events to oversee the use of facilities, physical set-up, catering, general logistics, as well as, compliance with campus policies and procedures.
- Manages and maintains the program-specific departmental budget(s).
- Consults with peer institutions on best practices in programming, student development and training, fundraising, and risk management.
- Assesses the activities and programs coordinated through the department.
- Develops training opportunities and guidance for RSOs, student staff, graduate student(s), and campus partners.
- Prepares and maintains fiscal documents and departmental financial reports.
- Executes departmental short-term and long-term goals and objectives.
- Prepares and analyzes assessment reports for internal and external use through the compilation of statistical information.
- Provides evidence-based recommendations for departmental initiatives.
- Assists the Associate Director in completing annual departmental policy review and objective outcomes.
- Develops and directs assessment tools for departmental objectives as well as student leadership development learning outcomes.
- Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Education/Experience
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience: (3) Three Years Experience
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in student personnel, counseling, or related discipline and two years of related experience; strong computer, oral, and written communication skills; demonstrated leadership and management skills; demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations; experience in staff supervision and program evaluation and assessment; knowledge of career inventories and resources; knowledge of career counseling and student development theories; and demonstrated experience in marketing programs and events, as well as teaching/presentation experience.
