Position Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Mississippi (UM) seeks highly qualified candidates for a tenure-track faculty position in high energy physics (HEP) at the rank of Assistant Professor. Computationally oriented candidates with expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) are strongly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain an active and independent research program, teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to the service missions of the department and university.
Candidates’ proposed research directions should strengthen and/or complement existing efforts in the department, which include experimental programs in connection with the Belle II, Muon g–2, EMPHATIC, NOvA, and DUNE collaborations, as well as a theoretical program in beyond-standard-model phenomenology. The search committee expects candidates to articulate how they will use AI/ML to exploit the large samples available at the intensity frontier.

Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field is required. Candidates should have at least one year of postdoctoral or related experience, a strong record of publication, and demonstrated potential for establishing an externally funded research program.
A competitive startup package is available. The new faculty member may also seek affiliation with the UM Center for Multimessenger Astrophysics.
