Department Summary
The Office of Information Technology (IT) supports the university's success through teaching, learning, research and service by way of technological excellence. To that end, IT empowers the UM community by enabling effortless access to data, information and knowledge by delivering creative technology services in support of the mission(s) of campus units.
The Business Applications and ERP Support (BAES) team within IT supports UM's core business processes within the division of finance and administration. These include human resources/payroll, finance (accounting, budgeting, student accounting) and procurement. The BAES team is currently participating in the implementation of Workday HCM/Payroll and Workday Finance as part of UM's ERP transformation initiative, Project Encompass.

Role Summary
This position leads the technical development, implementation, and support of complex, enterprise-wide, business and financial software applications within the university’s ERP ecosystem. This position will function as a technical lead for UM's Workday implementation, providing leadership and oversight to key technical workstreams such as data conversion, integrations, reporting/analytics, business process administration, security, etc. Upon go-live, the incumbent will lead a team of technical professionals (e.g. - software developers and business analysts) focused on the long term support and maintenance of Workday HCM or Workday Finance.
The incumbent provides technical leadership and support to the business processes within the university, provides strategic direction and supervision of technical staff, manages all aspects of the software development life cycle, assists with planning and managing departmental budget, and serves as a lead in the absence of the director.

Serves as a technical lead for UM's Workday implementation, providing leadership and oversight to key technical workstreams such as data conversion, integrations, reporting, business process administration, security, etc.

Leads the technical design, development, implementation and support of complex business software applications, including but not limited to the university's financial, human resources, payroll and procurement processes.

Assists the director in planning, coordinating, supervising and administering the daily operations of the Business Applications and ERP Support team.

Develops and implements policies and procedures related to the operations of the unit.

Provides strategic direction and leadership to the technical team, ensuring appropriate distribution of assignments while maintaining project timelines and goals.

Acts as a liason with customers to establish needs and priorities of requested software development projects.

Directs the efforts of the software development team to ensure customers' needs are met and are operationally sound.

Maintains effective communication of expectations and goals throughout all phases of the software development life cycle.

Manages various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, merit increase recommendations, promotions, transfers, vacation schedules, etc.

Assists with the planning and management of the departmental budget.

Engages in conversations/builds relationships with peer institutions that use the same ERP system, collaborating on solutions to complex business problems/issues.

Manages multiple initiatives while budgeting and maintaining strong business relationships with the campus community.

Serves as the lead in the director's absence.
