Definition of Class
This position identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards major gift prospects. The incumbent is responsible for planning, executing and administering a major gifts program for an assigned program or college in collaboration with the dean or director and development supervisor. The officer must be knowledgeable and articulate about current giving opportunities and develop new ones. The officer engages volunteers in fundraising efforts or service activities. Extensive travel is required to cultivate and solicit donors.
This position identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards principal gift prospects The incumbent is a leader in the division in fundraising results who is responsible for planning, executing and administering all fundraising strategies for The Ole Miss Alumni Association and The Inn at Ole Miss, and maintains knowledge of and articulates about current and gift planning vehicles and opportunities. Extensive travel is required to cultivate and solicit donors.
Examples of Work Performed
- Develops fundraising strategies for assigned college or program.
- Evaluates progress toward goals and adjusts as necessary.
- Collaborates with college or program leader and development staff.
- Takes college or university leaders on donor visits.
- Coordinates special events for major gift prospects.
- Works with communications to develop fundraising pieces.
- Arranges visits with donors via phone, email and social media.
- Attends alumni, donor, college, sporting and other events.
- Promptly records interactions with donors in the development database.
- Sends all biographical updates to the Alumni Records Department. Runs reports to build a trip or share information with a supervisor.
- Travels overnight and on weekends to meet with prospective donors.
- Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.
Essential Functions

- Cultivates and solicits gifts from assigned donors.
- Works with dean/director to set goals and strategies.
- Travels extensively and represents assigned program at various university functions.
Minimum Education/Experience
Education:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
AND
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience related to the above described duties.
Substitution Statement:
Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
