Department Summary

The Center for Mathematics and Science works to improve mathematics and science education in Mississippi by fostering interaction between academic and K-12 communities, support the implementation of research-based methods in the classroom, and promote interest in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

 

Through collaborative efforts the CMSE provides professional development for K-12 math & science teachers and provides opportunities for K-12 students to engage in the STEM fields. The CMSE fosters a continuous learning community within the department by working across the Professional Learning and K-12 STEM Experiences Divisions. We engage both undergraduate and graduate students in the work of the CMSE.

Role Summary

The Continuing Education Coordinator primarily works within the Professional Learning Division of the Center for Mathematics & Science Education. This person is responsible for coordinating the logistics related to professional development events offered to K-12 math and science teachers and administrators. The incumbent processes registrations, payments, and assists with the administrative functions of the office, as well as, coordinating advertising efforts via website and social media.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Securing locations and dates for professional development events.
  • Serve as a liaison in promoting professional development programs, including representing the department at state-wide teacher conferences.
  • Prepare materials for distributions to teachers and administrators such as fliers, agendas, and event related forms.
  • Process registration applications and payments.
  • Maintain accurate records related to professional development events using spreadsheets and databases.
  • Provides customer service to potential and registered attendees.
  • Maintains and updates departmental website using Cascade platform.
  • Design advertising campaigns using online resources (i.e. Canva, Constant Contact, myEmma).
  • Processes applications for teachers and administrators to receive continuing education credits based on attendance at professional development events.
  • Coordinates the CMSE Manipulative Library check-out system.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following.  Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  1. Provide administrative support for the development, implementation, and management of continuing education programs.
  2. Assist with program logistics, including course scheduling, registration, and payment processing.
  3. Maintain program databases, spreadsheets, and other tools to ensure accurate and organized data management.
  4. Assist with marketing and communication efforts to promote continuing education programs to target audiences.
  5. Coordinate program events, including workshops, conferences, and other professional development opportunities.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education: High School or Equivalent

Experience:  (4) Four Years Experience

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include a bachelor's degree and at least one year experience with the duties related to the position. A quality candidate would communicate clearly, possess organizational skills, and exhibit keen attention to detail. The ideal candidate would also have experience with website maintenance and social media advertising. Please include a resume and cover letter detailing your related experience.
