Definition of Class

This is a professional position in which the incumbent develops and coordinates professional training and coaching support to Mississippi school districts. The Department of Teacher Education at The University of Mississippi seeks one (1) position for Coordinator of Professional Development in the area of Special Education with an emphasis on hearing impairment.

 

The Department of Teacher Education at The University of Mississippi is seeking a Professional Development Coordinator for special education to assist in the development and delivery of professional development and support in the area of special education with an emphasis on hearing impairment.

 

Special Education Professional Development Coordinator Position:
The MDE has partnered with the University of Mississippi to employ one (1) Coordinator of Professional Development in the area of special education with an emphasis on hearing impairment (HI). The selected candidate for this position will support the Office of Professional Development and the Office of Special Education at the MDE by providing coaching support and professional development to local school districts and schools throughout the state in the area of special education. Please note: this position does not require relocation to Oxford or Jackson but does involve extensive in-state travel. 

Examples of Work Performed

  • Develops and coordinates professional development training programs for face-to-face and on-line sessions in the area of special education with an emphasis on hearing impairment.
  • Provides on-going technical assistance to educators across the state. 
  • Presents and speaks at professional trainings and works with teachers in the classroom to implement evidence-based practices in special education, particularly in regards to servicing students with hearing impairments.
  • Coordinates the production of materials to promote professional development services offered by the department.
  • Conducts needs assessments for training; oversees development of training materials.
  • Collaborates with various agencies to promote professional development services and determine training needs.
  • Creates and submits to required personnel all required reports reflecting trainings presented and participating individuals.
  • Stays abreast of professional development related to the training programs through research and attending in-state seminars and/or conferences.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  1. Develops, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates department sponsored professional training.
  2. Promotes professional development services.
  3. Serves as primary liaison between department and external agencies.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Master’s Degree in Education, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

 

AND


Experience:
Three (3) years of experience related to the above described duties.

 

AND

Current license with a special education endorsement

 

***Not required but preference will be given to individuals who are proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)***

 

Substitution Statement:

Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
