Department Summary
The University of Mississippi is seeking a dynamic and talented Coordinator of Student Activities for the Ole Miss Student Union to join our team.
The Gertrude C. Ford Ole Miss Student Union serves as the center of student life on the Ole Miss campus while supporting the education mission of the university by enhancing the collegiate experience with quality programs, facilities, and services. The Ole Miss Student Union (OMSU) department serves as the hub for all 400+ Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) on campus as well as the online student organization portal, The ForUM. Our OMSU staff advises several key student organizations and assists those organizations in coordinating over 200 events and activities throughout the academic year. Additionally, the department manages the general operations of the facility which includes space reservations, student employees, and event planning for the facility.

Role Summary
The Coordinator of Student Activities is responsible for the planning, execution, and oversight of a wide range of student engagement programs that foster a vibrant and inclusive campus community. This position leads major campus events such as Welcome Week, Homecoming, Union Unplugged, and Flagship Friday, while also supporting concerts, pageants, and late-night programming. The coordinator advises the Student Activities Association, recruits and mentors student leaders and support staff, and ensures the successful and safe implementation of all events through on-site supervision and adherence to campus policies.
Examples of Work Performed
- Plans, schedules, coordinates and supervises the operations of student activities on campus such as Welcome Week, Homecoming Week, Union Unplugged series, Flagship Friday late-night programming, concerts, pageants, etc.
- Advises and works with the Student Activities Association.
- Recruits, trains, develops, and mentors support staff and student organization members.
- Provides on-site supervision of events to oversee the use of facilities, physical set-up, catering, security, as well as compliance with campus policies and procedures.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with suppliers and vendors. Negotiates prices, menus, space, etc. with suppliers and vendors.
- Develops, manages and oversees assigned event budget.
- Manages the publication of print and on-line newsletters, brochures, social media, advertisements, handbooks, and other informational materials.
- Assists in establishing and implementing short and long-term goals, objectives, policies, and procedures supporting both program and department success.
- Develops and administers assessment tools for departmental events and activities and student leadership development learning outcomes.
- Establishes assessment practices, analyzes data, and implements findings.
- Ensures staff and students are compliant with policies and procedures and guidelines are met.
- Prepares and delivers presentations on program(s) offered by the department.
- Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.
Essential Functions
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.
1. Oversees scheduling logistics, securing resources, and facilitating one or more student programs, activities and/or services, which may include special events, student organizations, student publications, and student governance structures.
2. Assists with the design and delivery of student-focused programming and associated resources and materials to promote new and ongoing programs and initiatives.
3. Answers questions and provides information and resources to individual students and groups based on established materials and standards.
4. Assists with advising and training student workers and volunteers as needed.
Minimum Education/Experience
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience: (3) Three Years Experience

Master’s degree and 1 year of experience
