Culinary Training Specialist

Definition of Class

This position develops, implements, and evaluates culinary curriculum and training materials for face-to-face and web-based delivery. The incumbent coordinates multiple projects according to grants and cooperative agreement statements of work; conducts a variety of culinary based education and training presentations, seminars, and workshops; and serves as a professional resource for staff regarding culinary curriculum, materials, and instructional design.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Assists with the conceptualization, planning, and development of competency- based culinary curriculum, training materials, and resources for child nutrition programs.
  • Communicates with expert panels to develop culinary training resources.
  • Creates outlines and storyboards for new face-to-face and web-based culinary trainings.
  • Conducts trainings, seminars, demonstrations, and workshops for Institute of Child Nutrition (ICN) consultant trainers, allied organizations, state agencies, and other internal/external constituents.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of culinary industry standards and emerging trends.
  • Ensures trainings and workshops are conducted in a manner that complies with principles of food safety and sanitation.
  • Participates in departmental initiatives to infuse changes into culinary curriculum.
  • Monitors progress of new child nutrition and food safety regulations and advises staff as needed.
  • Ensures projects meet an established national quality of standard.
  • Networks and develops professional relationships with chefs in schools, state agencies, and other child nutrition programs.
  • Monitors and ensures assigned budgets and inventory are accurately tracked and maintained.
  • Improves participant learning through innovative strategies that aid participant success and reflect current culinary educational trends.
  • Attends national meetings, conferences, and other events to represent and promote ICN’s culinary training program.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.
Essential Functions

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Associates Degree in Culinary Arts or related field from an accredited college or university.

AND

Experience:
Four (4) years of experience related to the above described duties.

AND

Certification Requirement:
ServeSafe Certified

Licensure:
Valid Driver’s License

Substitution Statement: Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
