Position Description

 

The Department of Integrated Marketing Communications in the School of Journalism and New Media at the University of Mississippi invites candidates for the position of inaugural department chair to begin Fall 2024. Candidates must have demonstrated leadership experience, a commitment to teamwork, and a creative vision.  Candidates with the credentials for appointment as a full professor are preferred.  

 

We particularly seek candidates interested in a) developing the department’s strategic plan in consultation with departmental faculty; b) promoting and expanding curriculum surrounding new and emerging topics in IMC (e.g. data analytics, the use of AI in IMC, etc); c) supporting community-engaged initiatives, and d) seeking external funding to support innovative new projects.

 

Responsibilities of the department chair include curriculum building, promoting faculty excellence in teaching, research and service, and course scheduling.     

 

The School of Journalism and New Media recognizes both creative and research paths to tenure. The School offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Journalism and Integrated Marketing Communications. The IMC program curriculum is designed to provide a foundation for students in creating, managing, and evaluating brand-building communications across traditional and digital media platforms.  The IMC program is one of the largest of its kind, with nearly 1300 undergraduate students served by 13 full-time faculty and 11 support faculty. The graduate program in IMC has surged in recent years to more than 100 students.

Minimum Qualifications:
•    A terminal degree in mass communication, strategic communication, marketing, or related discipline with an emphasis in advertising, public relations, integrated marketing communications, or related area. 
•    Leadership experience in higher education. 
•    Demonstrated excellence in research, teaching and service. 
•    The qualifications to be a tenured professor at the associate rank or higher at hire
