Job Information

The Graduate Writing Center, seeks a Graduate Assistant to work as a writing consultant. The position involves working with graduate students from all current graduate programs at the University of Mississippi on their writing projects from various and diverse disciplines in the humanities and applied and hard sciences. The graduate assistant will provide writing support and consultation to students in scheduled sessions, up to six days a week, both online and in-person, as well as participating with writing workshops when necessary.

 

Minimum qualifications for the position include:

Current (or immediate upcoming) enrollment as a graduate student at the University of Mississippi

Must qualify for federal work study

Strong writing skills, as evidenced by a writing sample

Experience in research writing

Flexibility in availability, including possible evenings and weekends

 

Preferred experience:

The ideal candidate will have taken advanced writing or grammar classes, will have experience working academically with ELL students in any capacity, and will have above-average editing skills concerning grammar/punctuation conventions and mechanics. Experience with writing consultation or Writing Center work is preferred, but training is provided.

 

Work Schedule: 10 hrs/wk Assistantship

Award: $2750/semester

Time period: 1 year, with the possibility of renewal
