Role Summary
Performs routine to moderately complex accounting with a focus on sponsored programs. Ensure the accurate recording and reporting of a unit's financial transactions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform routine accounting tasks such as journal entries, budget adjustments, and account reconciliations on grant and start-up accounts
• Assist with post-award grant administration, including budget revisions, expenditure monitoring, and compliance with university and sponsor guidelines
• Collaborate with departments and centers to provide guidance on financial policies and grant processes
• Maintain accurate and timely financial records and reports for internal and external review
• Support audits and reporting requirements as needed
• Contribute to continuous improvement of financial systems and workflow efficiency within the Dean’s Office of Research Scholarship & Graduate Education
• Liaise with UM’s Office of Accounting as needed
Examples of Work Performed
- This position will supervise and provide professional development to an accountancy student who will support account review.
- Analyze quarterly financial data including audit risks identified
- Support departmental account reconciliation
- Pre-approve grant related procurement transactions
Essential Functions
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.
1. Reconcile grant and contract accounts and monitors sponsored programs budgets.
2. Develops, organizes, prepares and updates moderately complex financial statements, journals, accounts, ledgers and reports for financial needs related to sponsored programs.
3. Analyzes financial reports, data and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates and recommends solutions as needed.
4. Utilizes financial systems, recommending controls to ensure system reliability and data integrity.
Minimum Education/Experience
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience: (3) Three Years Experience
