Position Description
The School of Applied Sciences at The University of Mississippi is seeking applications for two Instructor/Lecturer positions in the Department of Social Work at the Tupelo Campus. These are nine-month, non-tenure track positions at the rank of instructor or lecturer as determined by teaching experience in higher education and research/community engagement/scholarly achievements. Applicants must have a Master of Social Work (MSW), hold or be eligible for social work licensure (LMSW or LCSW) in the State of Mississippi, and have at least two years of social work practice experience beyond their MSW. Candidates with a history of developing and teaching online and remote courses, experience maintaining field service records, field instructor training, and developing and maintaining internship sites are preferred. The successful candidate may begin as early as January 2023.
The successful candidates will primarily teach courses in the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program on the Tupelo Campus with some undergraduate and/or graduate teaching assignments on the main campus in Oxford or other regional campuses (https://www.outreach.olemiss.edu/regional/). In addition, the candidates may have opportunities to teach in the online Master of Social Work (MSW) program that is currently under development. The hires will maintain expertise in assigned areas of teaching, involvement in research/community engagement/scholarship sufficient to be recognized as graduate teaching faculty, assist with student recruitment, retention, and graduation. In addition, the hires will develop and/or teach undergraduate and/or graduate online courses, monitor student progress, assist with field service records, field instructor training, development and maintenance of internship sites, and serve on various departmental committees. The School of Applied Sciences, located on the University of Mississippi campus in Oxford, MS (https://olemiss.edu/), is an inclusive home to approximately 150 faculty and staff, over 2,600 students, six academic departments, four centers and an institute. The School of Applied Sciences currently serves 10 undergraduate, 10 master’s and 4 doctoral programs (https://sas.olemiss.edu/). The University of Mississippi – Tupelo has an enrollment of more than 25,000 students and offers more than 120 courses each semester (https://www.outreach.olemiss.edu/tupelo/).
The Department of Social Work at the University of Mississippi (https://sw.olemiss.edu/) is home to 15 full-time faculty and staff and over 175 students. Our department offers a BSW, MSW and a PhD in Social Welfare. We are guided by the principles of the strengths-perspective, empowerment, cultural responsiveness, and social and economic justice. The program promotes culturally responsive and inclusive education, applied research, community engagement, and interdisciplinary and international collaboration.
