Position Description

The Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management (NHM) at the University of Mississippi is seeking applications for one (1) Instructional Assistant Professor of Travel and Tourism. This is a 9-month, non-tenure track position. Candidates must have, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university, a master’s degree in Hospitality Management or a related field, and at least three (3) years of travel and/or tourism industry experience. Teaching experience in higher education is preferred. The successful candidate may begin as early as January 2025.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate classes related to travel and tourism, such as International Tourism, Luxury Travel Operations, Destination Branding and Management, and Sales in Hospitality and Tourism. Additionally, they will serve as a mentor to students in the travel and tourism minor, currently in development. Other duties may include assisting with student recruitment, retention, and graduation, serving on academic committees, engaging in curriculum design and revision, and fostering partnerships in industry and local communities. NHM (https://nhm.olemiss.edu/) is home to 13 faculty, 4 staff members, and approximately 360 students from around the world. NHM currently offers two undergraduate programs (B.S. in Dietetics and Nutrition; B.S. in Hospitality Management), two master’s degree programs (M.S. in Food and Nutrition Services; M.S. Hospitality Management), and a Ph.D. program in Nutrition and Hospitality Management. Both the B.S. in Dietetics and Nutrition program and the Coordinated Program (CP) in Dietetics program at the University of Mississippi are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). The Hospitality Management Program at the University of Mississippi is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA).
