Position Description
The Department of Writing & Rhetoric at the University of Mississippi has recently received additional funding to accommodate surging enrollment. We invite applicants for multiple full-time positions. The Instructor of Composition and Rhetoric is a 9-month teaching position that carries a 4/4 teaching load, service responsibilities, and professional development opportunities. Faculty in these positions are on a promotional track toward Lecturer and Senior Lecturer. Start date will be August 21, 2025.
The DWR is a supportive department with a growing degree program, multiple writing centers, a speaking center, an award-winning debate team, and a strong culture of faculty leadership and collaboration. We prioritize the power of the written and spoken word, civil discourse, student-centered pedagogy, and teaching to all learners.
Job Responsibilities
- Teaching undergraduate courses, including Writing 101 and 102;
- Participating in the ongoing evaluation and revision of curricula;
- Contributing to a professional development community within the DWR;
- Coordinating pedagogy with active and growing writing centers;
- Contributing to distributed assignment, course, and program assessments;
- Service to the department, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have completed a master’s degree in composition, rhetoric, or a related field by the hiring date.
