Department Summary

The University of Mississippi Grisham Law Library strives to be an innovative, student and faculty­ centered public law library that advances knowledge and the common good using service, education, technology, and a welcoming environment.

 

The Law Library's primary missions are:

(1)   to provide the information sources and services needed to support the research and instructional needs of Law School faculty and students and

(2)   to maintain an environment in which faculty and students can work effectively and comfortably.

 

To the extent its resources permit, the Law Library also strives to meet the legal information needs of other members of the University community, legal and library professionals in the state and region, and the general public. Role Summary

Performs non-routine clerical duties and responds to basic patron inquiries in support of the efficient delivery of library services.

 

The University of Mississippi Grisham Law Library seeks applicants for a permanent, full-time Library Assistant II position. This position performs technical services functions, such as cataloging and processing new items for the library's collection.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Effectively performs complex bibliographic searches using print tools and a variety of online systems such as library databases, OCLC, the integrated library system, etc.
  • Creates and edits bibliographic records in the local database under the guidance of a librarian or library manager. Provides additional cataloging access points and upgrades OCLC records from minimal to full.
  • Performs complex copy cataloging, K-level original cataloging, subject and call number analysis using appropriate electronic and print tools to support such functions as acquisitions/serials and cataloging.
  • Processes newly purchased items to be added to the library's collection.
  • Works with staff in other departments to assist in developing/revising operational procedures and policies.
  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following.  Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

1. Maintains organization of physical library materials.
2. Serves as a main point of contact for individuals providing more complex organizational information about library resources.

 

Minimum Education/Experience

Education: High School or Equivalent

Experience:  (4) Four Years Experience
