Definition of Class

This position manages the fiscal affairs of Insight Park and the Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC), establishes and maintains policies and procedures pertaining to fiscal operations, oversees the preparation and maintenance of fiscal records, ensures expenditures and receivables are in compliance with procedures and regulations of both external agencies and companies and the University, and serves as liaison with outside agencies, companies and the University’s administrative departments. Incumbent exercises discretion and independent judgment, while performing activities supporting external contract compliance; financial reporting to agencies and companies; and participating in technical writing for proposal development to agencies and companies.

 

The University of Mississippi Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) is seeking applications for a Manager of Project Resources. This position will manage the fiscal affairs for the ORSP’s Insight Park and the Office of Technology Commercialization.  The mission of Insight Park is to provide a dynamic research park where both startups and established companies can take advantage of opportunities for collaborative research, academic resources, and more. The Office of Technology Commercialization is responsible for innovation management, licensing, and startup support for The University of Mississippi research enterprise.

 

Manager of Project Resources- OPSP

The University of Mississippi (UM) seeks a Manager of Project Resources to manages the fiscal affairs of Insight Park and the Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) as well as oversee, direct, and/or coordinate administrative and general business operations for the units. Centrally housed within the Innovation Hub at Insight Park, and under the leadership of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, the Manager of Project Resources will also provide technical assistance and support to identify the needs and available resources related to the office.  Insight Park and the Office of Technology Commercialization at the University of Mississippi Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is seeking applications for a Manger of Project Resources. The Office of Technology Commercialization is responsible for innovation management, licensing and startup support for The University of Mississippi research enterprise.

 

This is a full-time, on-site, staff position.

 

Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate the following competencies specific to this role: excellent writing skills; managing tasks and projects; attention to detail; strong interpersonal communication skills; and mature judgment.  Experience with legal docketing and relational databases will be considered a “plus.”

Examples of Work Performed

  • Prepares financial statements and reports for Insight Park, OTC, and external agencies as needed.

  • Analyzes and interprets budget and expenditure information.

  • Invoices tenants and manages lease renewals.

  • Assists with the development of policies and procedures and participates in office planning.

  • Manages all financial aspects for the center or project. Monitors all expenditures.

  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures.

  • Participates in the planning and development of contracts and grants as necessary. Recommends and negotiates contracts.

  • Sets up and maintains transaction data for internal accounting requirements; reconciles transactions with university accounting and funding agency accounts.

  • Prepares appropriate paperwork for purchasing and inventory reports.

  • Coordinates daily operations of the Office of Technology Commercialization in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.

Examples of Work Performed Continued

  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures; participates in office planning; and supervises efficient operation of OTC in meeting external party needs.

  • Serves as the administrative point of contact with outside patent counsel, public and private sector collaborators, as well as university faculty staff and students. 

  • Coordinates the administrative activities and requirements of the University’s Patent and Invention Policy and UM Copyright Policy

  • Coordinates timekeeping, travel, and purchasing activities for OTC with appropriate university personnel.

  • Coordinates Insight Park and OTC’s website content with the appropriate university personnel.

  • Manage OTC’s relational database (Minuet) and oversees the integrity of data entered into the database.  Ensures accurate docketing, bookkeeping, and reporting of related intellectual property and agreements.

  • Assists with federal and university compliance issues related to technology transfer including, but not limited to, keeping up with the federal compliance in iEdison and coordination of documentation for the Office of Sponsored Programs Administration.

  • Meets regularly with the OTC Assistant Director and Director, ORSP accounting, as well as other related business offices and / or managers on campus.

  • May be required to travel to various off-campus locations including business and industry sites.

  • Assists in monitoring licenses, including tracking diligence and/or milestone requirements for the university’s commercial and development partners.

Essential Functions

  2. Establishes and maintains policies and procedures as it relates to the fiscal operations.
  3. Ensures compliance with University policy and procedures and funding agencies guidelines.
  4. Serves as liaison with outside agencies and the University’s administrative departments.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

 

AND

 

Experience:
Three (3) years of experience related to the above described duties.

 

Substitution Statement:
Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.

 

Licensure:

Incumbent must have a valid driver’s license. (Requirement for Academic Support Center, Small Business

Development Center (SBDC) and Graduate School)

This position will work in the Office of Technology Commercialization and Office of Economic Development. The position location will be in Insight Park. The salary range for this role is $40,098-$56,854 and final pay will be determined based on the experience and education of the candidate.
