Department Summary

The Department of Leadership and Counselor Education houses two program areas: Educational Leadership and Counselor Education. While at times, some support may be extended to the full department, the primary responsibilities of this position are in the area of Educational Leadership and the Principal Corps program. We have an experienced administrative team to lend support and facilitate transitions and necessary training.

Role Summary

Provides routine administrative support to a department or group of professionals in support of unit goals.

 

The Operations Coordinator for Mississippi Principal Corps plays a key role in supporting the delivery of a high-impact, 13-month leadership development program that prepares educators for principal roles across Mississippi. This position is responsible for managing day-to-day logistics, coordinating program events and course work schedules, and supporting two semester-long internship for each participant. The coordinator also serves as a liaison between the university, school districts, alumni, and philanthropic partners, ensuring smooth communication and stakeholder engagement. Additionally, the role includes tracking recruitment, admissions, alumni data, and supporting reporting needs for grants and impact evaluations. Strong organizational skills, clear communication, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential. This position also contributes to special initiatives that address Mississippi's education leadership shortage, support district partnerships through funding coordination, and document the impact of Principal Corps alumni serving as principals, superintendents, and district leaders across the state.

 

This is a part-time, 12-month staff position as an Operations Coordinator for the Department of Leadership and Counselor Education. The primary responsibility of this position is to serve as Operations Coordinator for the Mississippi Principal Corps.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Coordinate scheduling for all graduate coursework, summer sessions, and internship timelines across the 13-month program.
  • Manage logistics for major events such as professional develop sessions, and internship site visits
  • Support the placement process for two full-time internships per participant, including communication with site mentors and university supervisors.
  • Track and update data on participant progress, alumni placements, and school accountability outcomes using tools like Excel, Google Sheets, and university platforms.
  • Maintain detailed records for admissions, internship assignments, and stakeholder contacts to ensure smooth reporting and compliance.
  • Prepare internal and external communications including newsletters, alumni updates, and stakeholder outreach materials.
  • Assist with the documentation and submission of grant-related reports, including financial tracking and impact metrics.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following.  Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

1. Schedules logistics and secures resources for meetings, conferences, travel, and work unit operations. 
2. Sends, receives, copies, and distributes communications to the appropriate entities according to established policies and procedures. 
3. Tracks, stocks, orders, and inventories office supplies under direct supervision to ensure adequate materials are available for workplace operation. 
4. Serves as an occasional point of contact for individuals and groups providing basic organizational information via phone, in person, and through other communication mediums, routing more complex inquiries to the appropriate entities.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education: High Schools Degree or GED

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of administrative support related experienced preferred.
