Definition of Class

The Roy Laboratory is seeking highly-motivated postdoctoral scholars to join the expanding lab’s research program in chemical biology and anti-infective drug discovery for NIH-sponsored projects. We have two openings effective immediately.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Develop new synthetic methods with applications in medicinal chemistry for chemotherapeutic agents against drug-resistant infectious diseases.

  • Generate ideas to aid in the expansion of research programs in chemical biology to study bacterial virulence, pathogenesis, and host-pathogen interactions

  • Work independently to interpret results and design experiments

  • Work collaboratively with a team environment to carry out transformative science

  • Maintain detailed notes and record all research work via an electronic notebook system

  • Report data in team meetings and in meetings with collaborators (including those outside of the University of Mississippi).

  • Participate in laboratory upkeep, maintenance of laboratory equipment, and safety activities.

  • Contribute to the preparation and submission of reports and publications related to research

  • Report results at external scientific meetings

  • Train and supervise graduate students working on the same or related project

Minimum Education/Experience

  • A Ph.D. degree in chemistry with a strong foundation in organic chemistry (synthetic methodology or total synthesis of natural products) and/or chemical biology

  • Experience in Photo-redox catalysis and/or fluorination strategies

  • Experience in developing probes for activity-based profiling/chemoproteomics/microscopy/imaging

  • A creative thinker who can rise up to the needs of multidisciplinary collaboration

  • Adapt to new ideas and therapeutic areas (within infectious diseases) quickly

  • A record of first-author publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals

  • Experience with bacterial pathogens (chemical biology or microbiology) is a plus

The initial appointment will be for one year, renewable up to three years, contingent on continued funding and satisfactory performance. A competitive salary will be offered commensurate with qualifications, skills, and experience. A limited amount of relocation package is available as well.

How to Apply

Special instructions to applicants: Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, a CV, a research statement summarizing the current research accomplishments and future research goals and objectives and arrange for three references to be sent to Dr. Sudeshna Roy (roy@olemiss.edu).

For degree verification, an official copy of your transcript will be required upon hire.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
