Department Summary

The RMI program, housed in the School of Business focuses on preparing students for impactful careers in risk management and insurance. We do this by combining a rigorous academic curriculum with outstanding opportunities to engage with industry. Some of our key industry engagement initiatives are the Ole Miss Insurance Symposium and the fall and spring RMI career fairs. Our program is supported by the Ole Miss Insurance Advisory Board, that works to provide strategic direction and develop financial support for our activities. The work environment in our team, and the School of Business is  team-focused and this role is a great fit for those who want to engage in a dynamic industry and who bring a positive attitude with strong organizational skills.

Role Summary

Coordinates day-to-day fiscal, administrative, and operational activities of a defined, program or set of funded activities. Programs are usually focused to a single purpose, may be scientific, research, educational, or service oriented, and may exist as a subset of an integrated funded program activity. Duties typically include assisting with grant planning and administration, fiscal, budgetary, and/or other associated transactions, program implementation and administration, internal and external operational/administrative liaison, program marketing, and reporting.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Plans, develops, implements, and markets key events, including the Ole Miss Insurance Symposium and the spring and fall Risk Management and Insurance Career Fairs

  • Serves as a central point of contact between external constituencies and the Robertson Chair of Insurance and the Director of the Center for Insurance Transformation.

  • Builds and maintains collaborative relationships to support project activities. 

  • Coordinates faculty-led student trips to industry conferences and events

  • Participates in the creation and implementation of policies, procedures, goals and objectives.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following.  Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  1. Plans, develops, implements, and markets the Ole Miss Insurance Symposium, the Risk Management and Insurance Career Fairs, and other program events and initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university AND three years of related experience. Related experience may be substituted for education on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources. The position also requires knowledge of the basic operation of computers, skill in using the appropriate software tools, and the ability to organize and maintain data files.  Knowledge of event management and bookkeeping are helpful.  The position may involve a small amount of travel.
