Role Summary

Coordinates day-to-day fiscal, administrative, and operational activities of a defined, program or set of funded activities. Programs are usually focused to a single purpose, may be scientific, research, educational, or service oriented, and may exist as a subset of an integrated funded program activity. Duties typically include assisting with grant planning and administration, fiscal, budgetary, and/or other associated transactions, program implementation and administration, internal and external operational/administrative liaison, program marketing, and reporting.

 

This position coordinates the daily operations of departmental projects. The incumbent oversees, directs, and/or coordinates administrative, financial, personnel, and general business operations for the department and provides technical assistance and support to identify the needs and available resources related to the projects.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Coordinates departmental project activities.
  • Prioritizes and coordinates departmental resources for goal achievement and provides initial budgetary andexpenditure assessments of subcontracts.
  • Assesses potential sources of funding based on legislative, business, and industry trends. 
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures; participates in office planning; and supervises efficientoperation of office in meeting external party needs.
  • Serves as point of contact with various funding agencies. 
  • Identifies, analyzes, and disseminates relevant materials.
  • May be required to travel to various off-campus locations including business and industry sites.
  • Provides technical writing and budget preparation support as needed for proposal and project development andreporting requirements.
  • Facilitates communication and networking among project participants and external entities.
  • Develops, programs, modifies, and maintains the project’s information systems utilizing technology.
  • Designs and oversees data retrieval procedures for data collection, performs analyses on data collected, and reports findings and makes recommendations.
  • Attends related meetings and conferences.
  • Manages and coordinates the daily activities of departmental projects.
  • Researches and identifies needs and resources for projects.
  • Assists with designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating efforts for reports and/or proposals.
  • Prepares reports and other documentation.
  • Serves as point of contact for assigned projects. 
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required. 

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following.  Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

1. Assists in managing daily operations of the projects, programs or office to which assigned.
2. Establishes and/or maintains a recordkeeping system for programs, projects or office to which assigned and enters data into records or into system databases as appropriate and as needed.
3. Plans and develops methods and procedures for implementing projects.
4. Establishes and maintains productive relationships with state, federal, and private agencies as appropriate and as directed.
5. May coordinate events or conferences, from planning and advertising, to contracting for services from vendors, to registration and event completion. 
6.Initiates contractual agreements between the University of Mississippi and outside agents for supervisors review and signature.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Qualifications

Successful candidates must pass the required National Service Criminal History Check prior to beginning their position. This is a requirement of the national service grant which funds this position. Additionally, applicants must understand that this position is funded by an annual, renewable grant.
