Definition of Class

 

The University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy is seeking applications for an R&D Chemist. This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Core facility comprising of approximately 8 NMR spectrometers distributed throughout the School of Pharmacy and Chemistry. This position will also work closely with multiple departments, including the Department of BioMolecular Sciences and The National Center for Natural Products Research.  Applications must be submitted through the University of Mississippi’s employment site at https://careers.olemiss.edu.

 

Job Responsibilities
-    Ensure proper cryogen fills for the magnets. 
-    Manage all NMR related purchases 
-    Use NMR Core Management Software for reservation and billing
-    Keep up with service contracts and maintain inventory
-    Maintain and keep facilities organized
-    Troubleshoot software, electronics and hardware issues and perform/coordinate repairs as needed 
-    Assist with installation of new equipment. 

 

Competencies: Interactive communication, teamwork, analytical thinking, ability to manage multiple responsibilities, 

 

Minimum Education/Experience 
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, or a related field is required and 2 years’ experience.
Some knowledge of NMR operation and principles, or prior experience in filling cryogens, will be preferred.
