Definition of Class

This position manages pre and/or post-award activities for an assigned portfolio of grants and contracts within a unit (school, department, division). The incumbent develops and oversees grant proposals and budgets, provides technical and analytical support for program investigators, serves as a liaison between departmental, faculty, and external agents, and provides guidance and support for departmental staff.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Manages pre-award and post-award administration of sponsored research activities.
  • Develops and oversees grant proposals and budgets in compliance with federal, state, and University guidelines and regulations.
  • Creates and prepares monthly grants and contracts reports.
  • Performs account reconciliations and forecasts award notifications.
  • Provides critical analyses and resolutions regarding large, complex budgets and multidisciplinary proposals.
  • Advises the PI on proposal submissions, budget adjustments, and revisions required to meet the sponsor requirements.
  • Reviews budgets for accuracy and verifies financial requirements have been met.
  • Evaluates proposal elements (bio sketches, current & pending support, facilities & resources, etc.) for consistency, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Directs and oversees routing and submission process and communication concerning grant proposals, contracts, and awards.
  • Exercises knowledge of grant and contract management rules and regulations to provide technical and analytical support to research and sponsored programs investigators.
  • Tracks sponsored program activities within the college or division.
  • Assists PI with navigating search tools and communicates funding opportunities, proposals and awards.
  • Collaborates with departmental pre/post award staff to coordinate inter-team meetings as necessary.
  • Disseminates announcements and updates of policies and procedures to unit as provided by ORSP.
  • Ensures proposal submission files are maintained for the unit.
  • Provides guidance and support for departmental staff.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

Essential Functions

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field.


AND


Experience:
Six (6) years of experience related to research administration.

 

Substitution Statement: 

Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
