Position Description
The Department of Biology is a vibrant research environment with diverse faculty and staff in all areas of biology from genes to ecosystems. The department houses unique core instrumentation and training opportunities, and hosts weekly research seminars.
The Department of Biology at the University of Mississippi is seeking candidates for a temporary Research Associate position in the area of soil biogeochemistry. The successful candidate will carry out research on nutrient cycling in agricultural soils. Preferred qualifications include experience with field collection of soil, sediment, water, and biological samples; maintenance and use of field water quality meters; preparation of solutions for soil and water nutrient analysis; set-up and running of a membrane-inlet mass spectrometer for dissolved gas analysis; conduct laboratory incubations to estimate dissolved gas and nutrient fluxes at the sediment-water interface. This position is contingent on a pending grant extension. Applicants should submit a cover letter describing their interest in the position, and a CV or Resume.
Position Details
Appointment: 4 month
The Research Associate would play a key role in completing collection and analysis of samples collected during an EPA-funded project investigating the ecosystem services provided by temporary wetlands on agricultural row crop fields.
Typical daily or weekly tasks may include field collection of soil, sediment, water, and biological samples; maintenance and use of field water quality meters; preparation of solutions for soil and water nutrient analysis; set-up and running of a membrane-inlet mass spectrometer for dissolved gas analysis; conduct laboratory incubations to estimate dissolved gas and nutrient fluxes at the sediment-water interface.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelors degree (BA or BS) in Biology or related field
