Position Description


UM Community First Research Center for Wellbeing (CREW) at the University of Mississippi invites applications for a Research Associate, beginning Summer 2022. We seek a researcher to support the capacity building and outreach mission of CREW. Specifically, we invite applications from individuals with expertise and an interest in working with staff, non-profit, local, state, and federal organizations on research projects related to community wellbeing and community development.

Position Details


Appointment: 12-month

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
•    Demonstrated ability to perform core research functions—including developing robust data collection tools, conducting primary and secondary data collection, conducting a range of qualitative and quantitative data analysis and preparing clear communication tools such as research reports.
•    Work closely with local officials around capacity building.
•    Engage in independent research and publish academic research
•    Produce public facing publications on current CREW research projects—connect these projects to current policy developments in MS.
•    Participate in a research team including supervision of graduate and undergraduate students
•    Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with UM CREW clients and community organizations/members

Minimum Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in sociology, economics, rural sociology, community development, anthropology, implementation science, or related field. Interdisciplinary degrees with experience in community-based research are especially encouraged to apply.


Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
•    Experience in community-based research or capacity building
•    Experience in writing peer-reviewed publications
•    Experience in writing public facing reports or documents
•    Proficiency in data collection and data analysis (your choice of statistical packages)
•    Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills (both technical and non-technical)
•    Ability to communicate with lay and professional audiences
