Definition of Class
Applications are invited for a Research Scientist position in the Department of Civil Engineering and the Center for Graphene Research and Innovation at the University of Mississippi. The successful candidate will work with an interdisciplinary research team on providing tools for improving community resilience to floods due to levee breaches. The candidate needs to have good knowledge in civil engineering materials research.
Examples of Work Performed
The candidate’s responsibilities include using and/ or developing numerical codes to simulate soil-water-structure interactions, the use of machine learning algorithms, and the use of inundation models to simulate the propagation of floods caused by levee breaches. The candidate is also expected to perform geotechnical lab experiments, including flume tests if needed. Other responsibilities include 1) mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students, 2) preparing research results and writing grant reports, as well as manuscripts for publication, and 3) assisting with grant writing. This position is available for one year with the possibility of renewal (contingent upon availability of funding).
Minimum Education/Experience
A Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a related field is required. The successful candidate should have a strong computational background and a track record of successful research. Moreover, the candidate is required to have good communication skills.
