Position Description
As the main NMR facility manager and researcher, the person in this position will be responsible for the proper care of approximately 8 NMR spectrometers distributed throughout the School of Pharmacy and Chemistry. The position will also involve creating, advising and assisting in the execution of NMR experiments according to users’ needs along with training students and researchers who will need NMR as a technology for their sciences.
Examples of Work Performed;

Ensure the proper cryogen fills for the magnets.

Manage all NMR related purchases and be involved in the management of the NMR facility funds.

Use NMR Core Management Software for reservation and billing.

Supervise a student worker/assistant.

Train new users in proper use of NMR equipment according to best practices for obtaining good quality data.

Address the needs of NMR facility users through direct consultation with them.

Assist and advise NMR facility users, who execute their experiments, in the operation of the facility instruments with respect to software, hardware and experimental protocol.

Advise users on facility resources with respect to data processing and archiving.

Troubleshoot software, electronics and hardware issues and perform/coordinate repairs as needed.

Make/suggest probe and other equipment changes for specific experiment methods and ensure their performance.

Advise on specifications for upgrading or purchasing new instrumentation. Assist with the installation of new equipment.

Service/upgrade and maintain computers used in the workstations.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Physical Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy or a related field is required and 3 years of related experience.
Experience using or maintaining NMR spectrometers. NMR-related specific advanced training and/or work experience in multiuser NMR facility will be used by the search committee to rank the applicants. Experience in managing NMR Core Facility is desirable.
Competencies: Interactive communication, teamwork, analytical thinking, ability to manage multiple responsibilities, theoretical and practical NMR background.
Technical knowledge or skills: Previous expertise in the exploration of NMR techniques will be used for ranking the applicants. The theoretical and practical experience in NMR spectroscopy of the applicants to be evaluated by the search committee may include minimal or advanced knowledge in NMR pulse sequence programming, data acquisition and processing, (radiofrequency) calibration and theory, NMR hardware diagnostics, computer hardware and software diagnostic. Proficiency in various computer systems and platforms can also be evaluated.
