Definition of Class
The University of Mississippi's National Center for Physical Acoustics (NCPA) is seeking a Senior Scientist I or II to work with NCPA staff and students to develop and design unique and state-of-the-art acoustic signal processing algorithms and software. This position requires the successful applicant to have demonstrated experience developing mathematical models of systems employing sensors for signal processing or control, as well as applying statistical data analysis techniques to multiple-channel data. Demonstrated knowledge of applied linear algebra and experience translating mathematical solutions into software is required as well as the ability to develop research proposals, prepare and deliver technical presentations, and prepare manuscripts for journal publication. Demonstrated project leadership and successful mentoring of students is required. Knowledge of physical acoustics, array signal processing techniques, and C++ are highly desirable. The selected candidate must be eligible for U.S. Security Clearance.
Examples of Work Performed
Work with other NCPA staff and students to develop and implement acoustic signal processing algorithms for offline and real-time applications, lead projects, and develop proposals, presentations, and technical manuscripts. The applicant will assist in developing mathematical models of systems employing sensors for signal processing or control, as well as applying statistical data analysis techniques to multiple-channel data. The applicant will use knowledge of applied linear algebra and experience translating mathematical solutions into software to develop and design unique and state-of-the-art acoustic signal processing algorithms and software. The applicant will also develop research proposals, prepare and deliver technical presentations, and prepare manuscripts for journal publication. The applicant will take on project leadership roles as well as mentor students.
Minimum Education/Experience
Senior Scientist I: Minimum requirements for this position are a Ph.D. in a relevant field of engineering or science and nine years of relevant experience.
Senior Scientist II: Minimum requirements for this position are a Ph.D. in a relevant field of engineering or science and thirteen years of relevant experience.
