Definition of Class

This position works across multiple functional areas and system environments to architect technical solutions. Incumbent serves as the overall technical lead for major projects and partners with campus constituents to communicate needs, articulate requirements and drive technical solutions to successful completion.

 

This position will architect technical solutions as well as operate as a working technical lead for major projects while mentoring and helping review code developed by junior staff. This position will be part of the team supporting the campus Student Information System(SIS).

Below is a sample of the development and configuration tools that will be used by this position.

Java (or similar OO language), SAP ABAP, SQL and database design, Eclipse, Git, Agile Scrum

Examples of Work Performed

  • Meets with functional users to understand technical needs.
  • Explores technical options and determines the viability of various technical approaches.
  • Drafts system requirement documents and project plans to include, timelines, resource requirements that describe proposed solutions.  Creates story boards showing application flow.
  • Develops software applications to carry out project design and implements technical solutions involving SAP, Java, Data Warehousing, ID Management, etc.
  • Develops prototypes and tests concepts to validate designs.  
  • Tests new technologies with simplified interfaces and verifies systems performance prior to full implementation to resolve start up issues.
  • Supervises project execution. Conducts checkpoint meetings and implements quality control measures.
  •  Implements system interfaces according to XSD/SOAP requirements.
  • Sets up database schemas, infocubes, data extracts, etc.
  • Programs using appropriate languages or tools (ABAP, Java Perl) necessary to implement the design.
  • Researches and keeps current with new technical developments by reading professional journals, participating in classes and workshops, and using online resources such as the SAP Developer Network.
  • Provides technical direction and training for project team members.
  • Develops documentation for and conducts short courses and workshops.
  • May be required to teach an undergraduate and/or graduate college course in Computer Science, MIS, or related subject.
  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or a related field from an accredited college or university.

AND

Experience:
Seven (7) years experience related to the above described duties.

Substitution Statement:
Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
