Definition of Class

This position creates and develops space utilization strategies that support the overall University planning objectives. The incumbent conducts space analysis and monitors usage across the campus, determines quantifiable space needs and locations, coordinates with university leaders to ensure plans are consistent with university goals and strategies, and compiles data to prepare reports for internal and external constituents.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Analyzes classroom, office, and research space allocations based on campus and industry standards.
  • Develops and maintains a space management policy that supports the University’s mission.
  • Analyzes campus facility needs, develops proposals, and makes recommendations of priority for space improvement and capital projects.
  • Determines quantifiable space needs and locations.
  • Plans, creates, maintains, and updates the inventory of space needs working closely with the Director of Facilities Planning, Provost, Vice Chancellor for Administrations and Finance, and University Architects.
  • Conducts onsite campus space analysis to assess needs, verify existing information, and define the scope of work.
  • Creates a detailed program that includes existing space utilization, occupant information, necessary adjacencies, programmatic relationships, and qualitative requirements.
  • Builds and facilitates relationships to resolve issues related to space allocation and space planning.
  • Coordinates with university leaders to ensure plans are consistent with university goals and strategies.
  • Assists Provost’s Office with receiving and managing user space requests.
  • Develops inventory database utilizing existing data sets and standard industry space management software.
  • Assists with scheduling departmental moves and relocations.
  • Interprets policies and procedures for space requests and utilization.
  • Utilizes appropriate software to collect and compile data for internal and external technical reports.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

  4. Analyzes campus needs and makes recommendations for space improvement and capital projects.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field from an accredited four-year college or university.

AND

Experience:
Five (5) years of experience related to the above described duties.

Substitution Statement: Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
