Role Summary

This role leads the strategic vision for student-athlete recruitment, retention, and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities, working closely with the Athletics Director, Athletic Executive Staff, and key stakeholders to ensure compliance with NCAA regulations and Mississippi state laws. Responsibilities include developing and implementing policies, revenue-sharing models, and scholarship allocations, while optimizing NIL opportunities and fostering brand partnerships to enhance student-athlete success. The position also involves driving fundraising efforts, engaging donors, and coordinating cross-functional collaborations to sustain competitive excellence and align NIL strategies with institutional goals

Examples of Work Performed

  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies to ensure key university personnel and stakeholders are well-informed of the latest industry trends, NIL developments, and strategic initiatives.
  • Identify and develop new revenue streams to enhance funding for student-athletes and the athletic department, focusing on NIL opportunities.
  • Strategically engage with donors and prospective donors to secure funding for the future of athletics and student-athlete NIL opportunities.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of external events to raise funds and create new revenue-generation opportunities for student-athletes, aligning with university goals.
  • Advise on the university’s corporate partner NIL strategy, working closely with MMR partners to identify opportunities, set parameters, and develop procedures for maximizing NIL deals for athletes.
  • Coordinate with Athletic Executive Staff and relevant working groups to determine and finalize scholarship allocations across all sports, ensuring compliance with NCAA rules and NIL regulations.
  • Manage the internal revenue-sharing program, ensuring accurate tracking and timely payroll processing for NIL Compensation and Revenue Distribution.
  • Establish sport-specific revenue share and NIL budgets, ensuring appropriate allocation of resources across all programs.
  • Collaborate with the university general counsel and athletics compliance to draft and execute student-athlete revenue share and NIL agreements comply with state laws, NCAA regulations, and institutional policies.
  • Maintain constant collaboration with internal and external parties to ensure adherence to NCAA rules, Mississippi State law, and evolving NIL regulations.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends in collegiate athletics, including NIL legislation, compliance regulations, and the evolving commercial landscape, to ensure the university remains competitive in NIL and revenue distribution negotiations.

  • Support recruiting efforts, both virtually and in-person, while ensuring compliance with NCAA NIL legislation and recruitment policies.
  • Partner with marketing agencies to optimize NIL opportunities and brand partnerships for Ole Miss student-athletes, maximizing their marketing potential.
  • Collaborate with Multi-media Rights (MMR) partners to ensure student-athlete needs are met and sponsorship activations are optimized.
  • Coordinate and facilitate regular meetings among university stakeholders, including administration, compliance, development, external relations, and student-athlete development, to align NIL and revenue distribution strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Athletics Director and Athletic Executive Staff to develop the vision and strategy for student-athlete recruitment, retention, and Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) opportunities.
  • Work with Athletic Executive Staff and relevant working groups to finalize revenue sharing models, policies, and procedures for NIL compensation and equity.
  • Partner with each sport’s Head Coach, GM, or designated staff member(s) to identify and implement competitive advantages within established NIL and revenue distribution frameworks.
  • Stay informed on national trends in collegiate athletics, NIL deals, and competitive strategies, seeking innovative approaches for Ole Miss Athletics to excel in all sports.
  • Collaborate with the Athletics Director and key university stakeholders on NIL strategies and communication, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and compliance with NCAA and legal guidelines.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of how brands are engaging with collegiate athletes, including NIL deal types, market trends, and scope, to effectively advise athletes and stakeholders.
  • Provide ongoing guidance to coaches, support staff, and administration to maximize awareness, engagement, and strategic planning for student-athlete success in NIL and revenue sharing opportunities.
  • Conduct regular reviews of NIL commercial opportunities, budget allocations, staffing needs, and organizational structures to ensure sustained competitive success for Ole Miss Athletics.
