Job description:  
The School of Journalism and New Media welcomes applicants for a Tutor position (Student worker). Tutors will report to the Assistant Dean of Student Services and assist with the retention efforts of the department. Tutors must be able to work a minimum of five hours or more per week with assigned students in the department. This job requires a specific amount of academic knowledge in the journalism and or IMC curriculum. Sample courses that students may tutor include:  Jour (101, 102, 103, 270, 271, 273, 310, 369) & IMC (104, 205, 304, 306, 390, 391). Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and a letter of recommendation from a faculty member is preferred.

 

Qualifications:
-Tutoring experience is preferred but not required.
-Applicants should be enrolled currently as a student at the University of Mississippi who is pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in IMC or Journalism.
-Applicants should be classified at least as a sophomore.
-A letter grade of “B” is required for each course that is being tutored.
-Applicants must have an overall 3.0 grade point average or better.
-Applicants must be willing to tutor using the Zoom platform or tutor face-to-face.
-Applicants must be patient, kind, friendly, and able to communicate clearly.
-Applicants must be able to document the objectives met in the tutoring session and turn in bi-weekly timesheets.
-Applicants must be available to attend New Tutor Orientation, and on-going training throughout the semester.
-A recommendation from a faculty member is preferred.
-Applicants must be able to work five or more hours a week if needed and be available for work for the entire duration of the semester for which you are applying.
-Applicants must be able to tutor in a group or individualized setting.
-Applicants should submit a cover letter and resume.
