Definition of Class

The University of Mississippi Department of Student Housing is seeking Community Desk Assistants for the 2019-2020 academic year. Community Desk Assistants (CDAs) provide service at the front desks of our residence halls for residents, visitors, and staff. 

Job Responsibilities

CDA duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Providing outstanding customer service to all residents and guests 
  • Checking student IDs 
  • Answering the phone and taking messages 
  • Monitoring the lobby 
  • Managing visitation for a given community  
  • Assisting student housing staff members, maintenance and custodial staff, and possibly emergency responders
  • Reporting maintenance needs 
  • Checking equipment in and out
  • Helping students who are locked out of their residence hall room
  • Other tasks required by the department. 
Work Schedule


  • Our desks are open any time we have students residing in our communities, which will include some holidays or periods when the university is closed.
  • Late night and weekend hours are expected as our desks are open 24/7 during the academic year.
  • Maximum of 20 hours per week
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a student in good standing with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5.
  • Must be available to work varied hours on a flexible schedule.
  • Must be able to commit to at least one full semester for consideration.Preference will be given to applicants who can work a full academic year (Fall-Spring);
  • Must be able to attend regular trainings, staff meetings, and other functions as outlined upon hire.

Salary/Wage Information

Pay Rate: $7.40/hour
