Definition of Class

The University of Mississippi Department of Student Housing is seeking Community Desk Assistants for the 2018-2019 academic year. Community Desk Assistants (CDAs) provide service at the front desks of our residence halls for residents, visitors, and staff.

Essential Functions

The responsibilities/duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Providing outstanding customer service to all residents and guests
  • Checking student IDs
  • Answering the phone and taking messages
  • Monitoring the lobby
  • Maintaining the visitation log
  • Assisting student housing staff members, maintenance and custodial staff, and possibly emergency responders
  • Reporting maintenance needs
  • Checking equipment in and out
  • Other tasks required by the department.


Please note the following:

  • Our desks are open any time we have students residing in our communities, which may include some holidays or periods when the university is closed.
  • Maximum of 20 hours per week

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Must be a student in good standing with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5.
  • Must be available to work varied hours on a flexible schedule.
  • Must be able to commit to at least one full semester for consideration. Preference will be given to applicants who can work a full academic year (Fall-Spring);
