Department Summary
The Study Abroad Office at the University of Mississippi is dedicated to the personal and intellectual development of students, faculty, and staff through transformational global experiences. We strive to provide academically excellent and affordable study abroad programs across a wide variety of disciplines while supporting overseas UM travelers with comprehensive health and safety resources. The University of Mississippi’s Study Abroad Office is seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative, and globally minded professional to serve as a Study Abroad Advisor with a focus on faculty-led program coordination. This role supports the mission of the Study Abroad Office by facilitating academically rigorous and logistically sound study abroad programs that promote international engagement and student success.
The successful candidate will be the primary liaison for faculty developing and leading study abroad programs, supporting them from initial proposal through post-program wrap-up. This role requires exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, a high degree of professionalism, and comfort working with complex logistics and program budgets.

Role Summary
Advises students on opportunities for international study and provides guidance for students on navigating institutional and academic policy and requirements. This individual advises students in support of the institutional goal of developing a globally aware, diverse institutional community.
Examples of Work Performed
- Serve as the main point of contact for faculty developing short-term study abroad programs.
- Coordinate the proposal process for faculty-led programs and support proposal review and approval procedures.
- Provide detailed advising to faculty on program budgets, travel logistics, risk management, and academic integration.
- Monitor program budgets, ensuring fiscal compliance, accurate reconciliation, and adherence to university guidelines.
- Collaborate with campus partners and third-party providers to support health, safety, and logistical planning.
- Maintain regular and open communication with faculty leaders, ensuring they are well-informed and supported throughout the program lifecycle.
- Conduct pre-departure orientations and contribute to student advising efforts for program participants.
- Track program evaluations and contribute to program assessment and continuous improvement.
- Assist with special projects and broader Study Abroad Office initiatives, including outreach and events.
Essential Functions
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.
1. Advises students about international study opportunities.
2. Counsels students and support systems on cultural adjustments, policies and procedures.
3. Identifies and refers students to appropriate institutional resources and follows-up on referrals.
4. Provides guidance and reviews documentation for registration and academic credit transfer requirements according to policies and procedures for international travel and study.
5. Identifies, plans and delivers international education programming.
