Definition of Class

This position manages the technical services division within the Law School Library.  The incumbent supervises acquisition, receipt, claiming, processing, binding, cataloging and preservation functions and oversees the government documents depository.

Examples of Work Performed

 

  • Supervises library acquisitions of books, serials and other materials, including planning for, setting up, and modifying the acquisitions and ordering parts of Innovative; writing, and revising policies; monitoring performance of duties and performing duties as needed.
  • Coordinates the receipt, check-in, claiming, duplicate exchange and routing of serials, including planning for, setting up and modifying the serials parts of Innovative; writing and revising policies; monitoring performance of duties and performing duties as needed.
  • Manages bindery operations, including writing and revising bindery policies and procedures; teaching procedures to subordinate staff; monitoring performance of duties, and performing duties in the absence of the serials clerk.
  • Oversees distribution of mail, including writing and revising mail distribution policies and procedures; teaching procedures to subordinate staff; monitoring procedures to insure adherence to policies; and performing duties as needed.
  • Supervises cataloging operations, including writing and revising cataloging policies and procedures; teaching procedures to subordinate staff; monitoring performance of duties and performing duties as needed.
  • Manages the processing and withdrawal of library materials, including writing and revising processing and withdrawal policies and procedures; monitoring performance of duties, and performing duties as needed.
  • Supervises the updating of library continuation, including writing and revising updating and filing policies and procedures; monitoring performance of duties, and performing duties as needed.
  • Oversees functions of government documents, including writing and revising processing and withdrawal policies and procedures; monitoring performance of duties and performing duties as needed.
  • Manages functions of the integrated library automation system including the online catalog, serials, acquisitions, payment and circulation functions. 
  • Gathers statistical data for various reports.
  • Assists in negotiating and monitoring contracts and vendor services related to all aspects of technical services including cataloging, acquisitions, serials, binding, and automated systems.
  • Assists in the provision of reference and other assistance to patrons.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required

 

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following.  Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring Department.

 

  1. Supervises cataloging operations.
  2. Installs and maintains, software programs and automated systems.
  3. Oversees library acquisitions.
  4. Manages functions of the integrated library automation system.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:

Master's Degree from an ALA accredited college or university in Library Science, or related field.
AND
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience related to the above described duties.
