Role Summary

Performs IT services with responsibilities that range from providing support and maintenance for both physical and wireless network infrastructure, including peripheral devices (such as computer desktops, projectors, copiers, and printers), all the way to managing the technical side of an organization's web content platform. This position may manage a team of IT associates. 

Examples of Work Performed

  • Maintain and update software, hardware, and system procedures. 
  • Diagnose and resolve software and hardware issues, ensuring minimal disruption. 
  • Assist with the administration of Linux web servers and databases. 
  • Develop and install custom applications and scripts for system management. 
  • Perform system and software backups, ensuring data restoration capabilities. 
  • Train faculty and staff on the effective use of computer systems and software. 
  • Implement and maintain operating systems and components, such as Windows 10/11 and various Linux distributions. 
  • Analyze and improve operating system performance for efficient hardware use. 
  • Install and maintain device drivers for proper hardware communication. 
  • Update and patch system software to fix bugs, improve security, and add features. 
  • Diagnose and fix system-level issues, including OS crashes and incompatibilities. 
  • Create and maintain documentation for system software, including design specs and troubleshooting guides. 
  • Tailor operating systems to meet specific needs, such as Mechanical Engineering's Linux cluster and servers.
  • Website management for the school.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following.  Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

1. Provides routine assessment of department computer systems and software to ensure that all department functionality requirements and campus security standards are being met.
2. Provides technical support to departmental staff for any computer hardware or software issues. 
3. Installs, updates and troubleshoots departmental software and hardware, as needed.
4. Anticipates replacing or updating departmental computer hardware and software, including developing cost analysis and budgets to meet future needs. 
5. Serves as a technology liaison for the department with campus IT.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Experience: (3) Three Years Experience
